FAQ 🙋♂️
What styles of music do you perform? 💛🩷🩵💚💙❤️🤍
My repertoire is divided into seven genres: Pop, Soul, Themed, Brazilian, Jazz, Latin and Originals. In turn, the Themed genre is organised into three subgenres: Film/Theatre/Classical, Traditional/Spiritual and Christmas/New Year. Every programme is tailored to your tastes, so feel free to send favourite artists, songs or genres.
How long do you play for? ⏰
All bookings include a standard 3-hour "Live Time" (performance period) including breaks. That's 120 minutes' music over a 3-hour window. If I'm performing solo and the clients are as passionate about the music as me, there's usually a bit of flexibility to the "120 minutes", as long as it fits within the 3 hours. I prefer to focus on doing the event justice rather than clockwatching.
If I'm performing with other musicians who I've booked, it's a little tighter as we need to ensure everyone's happy. Fortunately, most musicians I work with are as flexible as me!

Do you provide DJ music too? 💿
Yes. In addition to the live performance, I provide DJ music before, between and after sets as part of my service at no extra cost, provided it fits within the agreed performance period.
I match the DJ mixes to the event genre/s. I have ready-made mixes for Brazilian , Jazz, Latin, and Soul events. I can also provide live iPad DJ service either combined with sax/flute/vocals as part of the act, or separately during the intervals. Any additional time to the standard 3-hour window is quoted at 20% per additional hour.

Do you offer discounts for shorter Live Time, e.g., 1 or 2 hours? ✂️
No. I charge per event rather than per hour.
This keeps arrangements simple and flexible. Clients often tweak timings in the run-up to an event, and keeping a flat rate means we can adapt without additional charges or awkward renegotiations.
It also ensures the music is delivered in a way that feels cohesive and properly serves the event, rather than being broken up or rushed into a shorter format where it doesn’t have the same impact.
On the day, if your event ends up running a little longer and logistics allow, I'm usually happy to continue, provided I don't have another event afterwards or one before (in which case I'll flag this to you in advance). If everyone is having a great time and you'd like the music to continue for longer than 15–30 minutes at each end, we can simply touch base and agree an extension.

How long does it take to set up? ⏱️
All bookings include a standard 2-hour “Lead Time”.
This constitutes:
This is a built-in buffer to ensure the live music begins seamlessly, even if there are minor variations in guest arrival times or venue readiness.
This constitutes:
- 1 hour for arrival, setup and soundcheck, allowing time to get in, unload, set up equipment and test the acoustics so everything is ready and running smoothly before guests start arriving.
- 1 hour for curfew, which refers to the time leading up to the performance where everything is fully set and "show ready" — costumes on, DJ music playing, and guests arriving.
This is a built-in buffer to ensure the live music begins seamlessly, even if there are minor variations in guest arrival times or venue readiness.
What's a curfew? ✨
The point at which the doors are open, the guests start arriving and everything is "show ready" for the performance.
Do you offer discounts for shorter Lead Time, i.e., 1 hour instead of 2? 🚌
No. All events include a standard 2-hour “Lead Time”, which is simply part of the way I structure every performance (2 hours "Lead Time" + 3 hours "Live Time" = 5 hours total). It ensures consistency, calm setup, and a smooth transition into the live music without rushing or compromise.
The curfew can be waived at the client’s discretion, but I’d generally recommend keeping it in place as it provides peace of mind and removes any pressure around timings on the day.
If I’m travelling from a longer distance, I may arrive slightly earlier than the scheduled time where practical. In those cases I’m very happy to wait nearby if needed — a café, green room or holding area works perfectly — and I’ll always keep you updated with my ETA so you know exactly where things stand throughout the day.
The only occasion I’ve ever been “late” to an event was back in 2015 due to a train delay. Even then, I arrived *on time*, albeit via a slightly less conventional timetable. That experience is exactly why I now build in a proper buffer — so everything runs smoothly, no matter what happens en route.

How do I enquire? 📅 🧭
Simply send:
If you already know the timings, feel free to include them too, but it's not essential, or simply specify morning / afternoon / evening / night.
I'll quote via whichever method you contacted me - e-mail, WhatsApp, Facebook or elsewhere.
- Your event date.
- Your venue postcode.

What happens after I enquire? 🔴
Once you've sent me the event date and venue postcode, I'll quote availability and cost, and pencil it into the Calendar as red (“Pencilled”).
If you'd like to go ahead, I'll send a deposit invoice and contract to secure the date, at which point I'll update it in the Calendar to yellow (“Confirmed”).

How do I book? 🟡
If you're booking direct, a 50% deposit is taken to secure the date, with the remaining 50% due on the Monday before the event. Separate invoices are issued with due dates and full event details. A simple written contract is provided via e-mail, which can be signed electronically. If another method is preferred (such as WhatsApp confirmation), this can be accommodated, provided the agreement is confirmed in writing for clarity.
If you're booking via an Employment Agent (for example through platforms such as Last Minute Musicians), 100% payment is taken upfront to secure the date once your booking fee has been paid to the agent. Where this isn't possible, I’m usually able to hold the date temporarily, but this will always be transparently communicated if there are any other enquiries for the same date. In these cases, confirmation is secured once payment is received. Contracts and administration are handled via the agent, including any associated booking fees or platform charges. This approach keeps the arrangements clear between all parties and ensures consistency across bookings.
If you're an Employment Business (for example a business, festival, promoter or venue), contractual arrangements and payment terms are agreed on a case-by-case basis depending on your internal processes. Let’s have a conversation.
This three-part structure is in place to ensure clarity and fairness on both sides. As I may receive multiple enquiries for the same date, a structured booking process allows me to commit properly to each event and ensure every client receives a reliable, well-prepared performance.

What happens after I book? 🟢
Once your booking is confirmed, I’ll mark the event as green (“Contracted”) in the Calendar and add it to Events. Don’t worry, I won’t put your address — it will simply appear as [Private House], [Town/City] for residential events. If it’s an embargoed event such as a bar/restaurant launch, please do let me know and I’ll list it as [TBA]. Adding it online is all part of my standard booking process and helps keep everything organised.
From there, we move into the Show Advance stage, where we’ll go through timings, music, dress code and any special requests. My aim is to keep arrangements straightforward and enjoyable, so you’re never left wondering what happens next.

Can you play a special song? 💖
Yes.
You can request any songs from my Repertoire page at no extra cost, and you’re also welcome to request genres or general styles if you’re not sure exactly which songs you’d like.
There are example sets on my Events page — if you see something that takes your fancy, please do send me a link as it helps shape the direction of your event. I keep a running record of songs performed at previous events, which helps me refine and build on ideas when putting together your programme. The more detail you can provide, the better the result will be.
If you’re looking for inspiration, my Sets page is a useful starting point. This acts as an ideas room / mood board, with a range of client-inspired sets designed to give you a feel for different themes and styles. It’s especially helpful if you’re not yet sure exactly what you want and prefer to explore a few directions first.
If there’s a song that’s particularly meaningful to you and it isn’t already in my repertoire, I can learn it authentically (verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge etc.) for a small fee of £20 per song.
If a live version isn’t required, or if you’d prefer to avoid the additional charge, I can incorporate the original recording into the DJ mix instead (rather than the live performance), provided you supply an MP3 file, as streaming links such as Spotify are impractical.

Did I hear you say DJ? 🎧
Yes.
Alongside the live sax performance, I usually perform over continuously mixed backing tracks, rather than single standalone tracks.
Rather than playing individual tracks in isolation, the music is delivered as a series of bespoke, pre-prepared mixes and structured segments, designed to keep the event's musical pacing consistent from start to finish. These mixes are built in advance and may combine multiple tracks, edits and transitions so there are no gaps between songs. In some cases, individual songs are trimmed or blended into one another to match the event's pace or to accommodate a large number of requests without disrupting momentum.
This also means that while requests are always welcome, note that they may be already incorporated into a broader (e.g. 15–20 minute) mix or adapted into the structure of an existing segment, rather than played as standalone full-length tracks - depending on what’s been discussed and agreed during the Show Advance.
The result is a continuous musical experience — with seamless transitions, beat-matched segments where appropriate, and carefully shaped dynamics — rather than a stop-start playlist. No gaps between songs.
That said, there is the option for me to bring playlist(s) of single standalone tracks if the event requires more flexibility or a slower pace of music.

How is the music structured? 💼
Every event is different.
If you'd like an hour of chilled background music followed by an hour of upbeat dancing music, I'll prepare the sets accordingly. If timings are more fluid, I can create shorter 15, 20 or 30-minute segments and 'drop' them throughout the event depending on the atmosphere and your preferences.
For each event, I create a programme, which acts as the overall structure for the performance. This programme is then broken down into sets, comprising a playlist of songs, either joined together in pre-mixed segments, or as separate isolated tracks, or a combination of both pre-mixed segments and individual songs.
A programme may include a combination of:
The sets are prepared in advance, allowing me to map out the energy and progression of the event from start to end while allowing space to adapt on the day if needed. This ensures I can concentrate on the most important aspects - the playing, singing and audience interaction.
The more information I have in advance, the more detailed and personalised the programme can be.

Can guests request songs during the performance? 🎭
Of course.
Requests are always welcome, and I’ll do my best to include them where possible. Their fulfilment depends on a few factors — including whether it’s in my repertoire, how it fits with the event flow, and how much time is remaining within the set when the request is made.
I travel with a large digital library of backing tracks and mixes (over 250GB) on an iPad Mini, which means I can accommodate spur-of-the-moment requests on the day if they are already in my collection or can be integrated quickly.
Obviously, the earlier I know about requests, the better. If friends or family have favourite songs, feel free to pass on my contact details beforehand so they can be included in the planning. Ideally, all key requests are shared as part of the Show Advance, so everything is aligned in advance and everyone involved knows what to expect. The more context I have, and the more parties included in that process, the smoother the performance can be.
Occasionally, spontaneous requests will come up during the event — often from guests who weren't involved in the Show Advance, or perhaps didn't even know it existed! And that's absolutely fine — that's the whole point of having one. If I can include the request, I will. If not, I'll usually say "next time!", which is my polite way of keeping the music moving whilst leaving the conversation open for future opportunities. I never say never!

What's a Show Advance? 📊
A Show Advance is my term for the post-booking, pre-event planning process during which all the finer details are ironed out.
Think of it as a living, working document, built collaboratively via e-mail and/or WhatsApp, covering everything from timings and song requests to dress code, venue logistics and technical requirements. An e-mail summary is compiled for your convenience so everything is in one place and everyone knows what to expect.
I run a Show Advance for all bookings, whether direct or via an agent/business. It's a simple but effective means of ensuring there's a shared understanding between all parties and that nothing important slips through the cracks.
More importantly, it's your opportunity to maximise your booking. Want a particular atmosphere? Have a special request? Unsure about timings? Need advice on staging, PA or how best to structure the music? This is the space to ask.
Generally speaking (and I'm aware I keep repeating this): the more information I have — and the more relevant people involved in the conversation — the better. It helps me adapt the performance, manage expectations and avoid unwanted surprises or last-minute curveballs on the day.
Once you've booked me for your date, everything becomes more organic. I'll be available via e-mail, WhatsApp and phone throughout the day and night in the run-up to the event, so feel free to send ideas as and when they come to you.
Over time, I tend to become a sort of sounding board — whether that's helping choose songs, advising on timings, thinking through logistics or simply bouncing around ideas. The Show Advance evolves naturally, and once the event day arrives, the aim is simple: everyone is on the same page, and all that's left to do is enjoy the music.

Do you provide PA? 🔈
Yes - a portable PA is included as standard.
For louder, prominent performances, I bring an LD Systems Maui 5 GO.
For intimate, background music performances, I bring a smaller setup such as a Roland Boss Street Cube II or a Mackie SRM-150, which is better suited to the occasion.
If you have a particular preference, it's advisable to let me know as soon as possible as I'm often hiring out PA between different events (otherwise, I'll coordinate based on what's already been discussed during the Show Advance).
If you're hosting an event in a ballroom or arena, it's advisable that a larger, non-portable PA is hired separately, as there are natural limits to what a portable PA can comfortably cover in terms of space and volume. In larger corporate events and festivals, dedicated AV support tends to be provided by the client/venue rather than the musicians. Happy to discuss and advise if you're unsure. While I'm self-contained, I'm first and foremost a musician rather than a fully-fledged AV company or 'man with a van', so I prefer to be realistic about what can be achieved with a portable PA.
I'm always happy to provide recommendations. My lovely partners at Tiger Music Entertainment in Kingston, Greater London, can provide a larger system where required, including a heavily discounted setup via the percussionist, who inherited the Yamaha 16-channel desk and powered speakers I previously used when directing full live bands.

Do you provide microphones? 🎤
Yes - this is included as standard.
I use a SubZero wireless clip-on saxophone microphone, which allows me to move freely around the space and interact with guests during the performance if required. Depending on the setup, I can perform fully mobile, stationary, or a hybrid of both, depending on what best suits the audience and event style. I'm happy to either take the client's advice on this or read the room. If unsure, I'd initially let the clients come to me (rather than vice versa) so any audience interaction is non-intrusive. I'm also very mindful of health and safety considerations and maintain respectable boundaries when it comes to personal space.
For more intimate performances, such as background music in hotels or restaurants, the saxophone doesn't always need to be amplified and is often perfectly balanced within the natural acoustics of the room.
If flute or vocals are involved, I bring a Shure SM-58 microphone and stand.
If you also need a microphone for speeches or even a bit of karaoke, please do let me know during the Show Advance stage and I’ll happily bring one at no extra cost.
For any specific requests, please do try to let me know at the very latest the day before the event if possible, as that's when I pack (never on the day, and I tend to set off bright and early in the morning).

Do you perform outside? ☔️
Yes.
I love outdoor performances and regularly perform in gardens, marquees and open-air venues.
I only ask that suitable rain cover or a backup plan is provided, as musical instruments and electronics don’t mix particularly well with British weather!
Access to electricity is helpful but not always essential, as some of my PAs are battery-powered. If electricity isn't available, please do let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly and avoid bringing the Mackie SRM-150, which requires mains power.

Where do you travel from and to? 🗺️
I'm available throughout the UK and regularly perform at events nationwide.
I split my time between two areas — London (SW1A) and Stroud (GL5), alternating weeks working in London (Angel / King's Cross), which is the reason for this dual-base setup. Quotes are based on whichever of the two postcodes is closest to your venue (SW1A or GL5). This keeps pricing consistent across southern regions. In practice, this does mean I absorb additional travel time and costs for South East and London-based events, while keeping the same structure as bookings further west.
If you're based in the North of England, Scotland or elsewhere, I'm very open to discussing flexible arrangements depending on the event nature and logistics. Where helpful, this can produce practical solutions such as overnight stays or adjusted travel planning if booked in advance.
If you're unsure whether I cover your area or how it would work for your event, do ask — I'm always happy to have a conversation and see what can be arranged.

What do you wear? 👔
I have an extensive wardrobe of outfits to suit different event styles.
Options include patterned or plain cocktail sets (matching shirt and shorts), monochrome all-white ensembles, smart casual chinos and shirts, or full formal wear such as a tuxedo with tie or bow tie.
For themed events, I can refine the look further using colour-coordinated accessories to match the event atmosphere. This can include hats, sunglasses, and even Hawaiian flowers specifically colour-matched to the chosen palette, theme or branding.
For more interactive or high-energy sets, I can incorporate performance accessories such as a shaker or whistle where appropriate.
Get creative — have a think about the style and atmosphere you'd like, and I'll dress to impress. I’m happy to share photos via e-mail or WhatsApp during the Show Advance so we can fine-tune together. I put a lot of thought into the visual side of every performance, because the look is as important as the music in creating the right vibe.

Can you perform as part of an established band / lineup? 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁
Yes.

Where bespoke material or custom arrangements are required, this can be discussed ahead of time.
All of this means I can slot into established musical setups with minimal friction — a plug-and-play approach to live performance.

Here are some ideas:
- Book me in tandem with another vocalist or instrumentalist. In this format, we can share the performance and alternate throughout the set between live sax, vocals, backing tracks and instrumental accompaniment, effectively trading songs and roles. This works well if you want a combination of repertoires within the same booking.
- Book me as a saxophonist alongside an existing DJ, integrating live sax over music mixed in real time.
- Book me to work with a pianist or guitarist of your choice if you already have other musicians in place. Where required, I can provide resources to ensure everything locks together musically in advance. I maintain a digital repository of charts, Real Books and backing tracks dating back to 2005, easily shareable via Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Do you offer charts or backing track work as a separate service? 📝
Yes.
Alongside live performance, I undertake freelance work in two main areas:
1) Charts (PDF-based work).
This includes transcription, notation and orchestration of performance-ready charts and real book-style notation. Work can range from a single song through to larger collections depending on the project.
2) Backing tracks (WAV-based work).
This includes recording, programming and editing backing tracks, audio stems and performance-ready mixes in WAV format for live use or rehearsal purposes.
I charge £25 per hour for this type of work, and you’re welcome to get in touch for a no-obligation chat if you’re unsure what you need or whether it’s suitable.
I’ve been working with Logic Pro since the mid-1990s — the days of eMagic (before the Apple acquisition!) — across both notation and audio production work.
Where helpful, I can provide examples of previous charts or backing tracks. Completed work is delivered as PDF or WAV files, and I store them securely so they remain accessible if needed. I’ve done this work for a range of musicians, composers and bands, including those featured on my Freelance page.
I have the facility to produce home recordings using high-quality audio interfaces and condenser microphones, allowing me to create reference tracks, demos or rehearsal material.

Which artists or styles have influenced you? 🇨🇺 🇧🇷 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
My saxophone playing has been strongly influenced by Paquito D’Rivera, alongside wider Latin, Brazilian, Soul and Jazz traditions.
Vocally, I take cues from artists such as Ivan Lins and Emilio Santiago, particularly within more melodic and jazz-influenced repertoire.

How did you get into performing professionally? ⭐️
After graduating with First Class honours degrees from the RNCM and the University of Manchester, my early work began with large ensemble and Latin jazz projects, including Diáspora — a 12-piece ensemble formed during my studies, performing Afro-Cuban repertoire with orchestral-scale instrumentation.
Diáspora started out as a 19-piece ensemble at the RNCM supporting Bassekou Kouyate, playing a selection of Afro-Cuban repertoire, bolero, danzón and 6/8 with traditional instruments including mbira, string quartet, piccolo and timbales to get the authentic Havana sound. Afterwards, everyone- musicians and audience alike- were asking me "when's the next gig?" What started out as a one-off 'accident' turned into a 15-year act, in which I developed my skills as a songwriter, vocalist, pianist, and arranger - in addition to saxophone/woodwind. This spawned a smaller act, Fiesta Latina, in response to the demand for smaller Latin function band-style outfits. During my 11 years in London, I played with a soul band in a monthly residency, which in turn gave birth to my alter-ego, Phasma, which brought together a collective of musicians across London's soul, funk and RnB circuits. Rory and Nova Boss ensembles have provided North American and Brazilian jazz since 2008.

What kind of events do you enjoy most? 🎉
The most rewarding events are those where there is genuine collaboration during the planning phases — where clients engage with the music in advance and we shape the performance together as part of a structured itinerary.
When there is detailed communication and shared input through the planning process, the result is always more bespoke, more cohesive, and more effective on the day.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances? 🏆
Please see my Testaments page for some of the feedback received since I started performing professionally in 2009.
Which instruments do you play? 🎷🪈 🎤 🎹
I play YAS-62 Alto Saxophone, Yamaha Soprano + Tenor Saxophones (475). In addition, I offer Jupiter Flute and clarinet for a truly rich blend of musical textures.
Alternatively, I can be booked as a singing pianist and I travel with a Roland Juno-DI digital keyboard, small PA and microphone.

What do you eat? 🧀 ☕️ 🥛
While somewhat less important than the performance itself, I do get asked! I'm vegetarian (not vegan) with no allergies or outlandish requests. I prefer savoury to sweet. And I drink coffee by the cafetiere. Milk (any variety), no sugar.
